Sci-Fi Loot Chest

For our first 3D assignment for our class, 3D for Games, we were given the task to create a Loot Chest. The criteria was to include handles and a keyhole in order to be considered a chest but, overall, we were given full creative freedom on our designs. Aside from the common rectangular loot chests which appear in most videogames, I wanted to play around a lot with shape language and land upon a design that is unique yet viable as a chest.

I was heavily inspired by the armor suit in DeadSpace. I wanted to create a Sci-Fi mechanical look to my asset. I was interested in it being ribbed as in the power suit and open apart down the middle like the doors of a wardrobe or similar to a Blood Eagle. I found this idea quite interesting in comparison to its design.

I incorporated a small puzzle game in order to open the chest. I was fond of lock mechanisms in Skyrim and decided to incorporate a similar idea. There would be a window pop-up just like a lockpicking mini-game but instead it would be turning dials to match the images such as the Golden Claw door mechanism (Image 2).

Overall, the chest was a simple yet effective design in what I was trying to achieve. I played more with Primary Forms than Secondary and Tertiary, which I wish I couldve touched upon more, but regardless it was a very educational and eye-opening experience.
